Potato Head, portrayed by Andy as One-Eyed Bart, threatens to have her sheep run over if she doesn't keep quiet after he "robs" the bank. In Toy Story, she is first shown when Andy Davis, who has set up a stage, is portraying her as a distressed shepherdess who is despaired when Mr. (Advance tickets are now on sale.) It sounds like an interesting twist on a classic character who never quite got her due, so we'll be interested to see how it plays out when Toy Story 4 hits theaters in late June. ![]() But she wasn't a tomboy, we wanted her to embrace her femininity. She's on her own, so she's got to be able to handle herself. "We liked that she's kind of self-sufficient. For MacMahon and the design team, it was all about making sure that they were paying respect to the character who was set up in Toy Story 1 and 2 whilst elevating her to fit into the new story. And while she's tough, she's also caring." When it came to the radical new look, it was a long journey that took a lot from brilliant real-life athletes and gymnasts. She's a little rougher than Woody because she's seen things, she's out there in the world so she'll do what it takes to get a job done. True to the old Bo, she can be sarcastic, silly, playful, and competitive. "She's willing to help a friend, but she's definitely not overly motherly. But with their strengths combined, he's a sheriff, she's a separatist, and together they're unstoppable."Īs for how the new Bo fares compared to her previous incarnation, the story team thinks she's still the same old Bo, she's just got a bit more life experience. She's the lost toy, which really challenges Woody, he can't quite wrap his head around it. She had to learn to adapt, she takes chances, she's somewhat unpredictable. "She's a character who's tired of sitting on a shelf and just waiting for life to happen. Story artist Carrie Hobson explained a little bit more about just how Bo ended up on the proverbial and literal playground. For Bo though, it's given her a whole new lease on life and a sense of freedom that she'd never known. So we decided that she goes from a baby lamp to a lost toy." It's not a change that Woody is expecting, though, and to the kindly cowboy the idea of being a lost toy is the worst thing that he can possibly imagine. Who she is and what she brings into his life at this moment will inform the decision of who she is. So for this character arc and change, she would be the central character for this, and she would go from a supporting role to a lead character. "We knew that Bo would be the driving force and influence on Woody. Story supervisor Valerie LaPoint shared that having Bo as a fully-formed character with a life of her own was vital to her reintroduction and the impact that she would have on her former beau. It was a cool route, but one that didn't end up working out as the minds behind the revamp realized that "she's not a survivalist, she's not in a post-apocalyptic world, she's a toy," modeling artist Mara MacMahon told the room of journalists.Īfter leaving Molly and being taken to the thrift store that would become her home for years, the shepherdess escaped and began a new life as a proud lost toy. The concept art that we saw showed a number of high-tech, post-apocalyptic influenced visions of the character including Bo with a cyborg arm, and the arm of another action figure. But they had to bring Bo Peep back first, and director Josh Cooley's initial vision for her was unlike anything the team had ever seen. Establishing that was key to the journey the pair would go on when they were eventually reunited. In the footage that was revealed at Cinemacon there's a scene which established that in the original movies Bo had in fact been the leader of Molly's room, just like Woody was in Andy's, but viewers just hadn't witnessed it yet. Last seen in Toy Story 2, Bo was mostly known as a potential love interest for Woody rather than the star of her own story, but that was something the team was keen to change. ![]()
